Tencent reported Q1 2020 results on 14 May 2020. Compared to the same period last year. Amid the pandemic, Tencent’s Q1 online advertising revenues grew 32%. Tencent’s online video subscription service, Tencent Video, gained almost 6 million new subscribers during first quarter of 2020, with 26% year-over-year growth compared to 19% in previous quarter. Meanwhile, smartphone games business experienced a sharp quarterly increase of 34%.

Kia Ling provides analysis and forecasts on subjects such as TV broadcasters’ advertising revenues, including those from linear TV and ad-supported online video, and programming spend. She is widely quoted in media publications and has authored topical reports covering advertising M&A and TV and online video markets in China, Indonesia, and India. She is based in Penang, Malaysia, and joined Omdia in April 2014. Prior to joining Omdia, Kia Ling was a lead analyst at the Governance, Risk, and Compliance division of Thomson Reuters. She holds a Master of Science in international business management from University of Kent, UK. She is fluent in English, Chinese Mandarin, and Malay.
Jun Wen Woo
As part of Omdia’s consumer team, Jun Wen Woo covers pay-TV and online video markets in the Asia Pacific region. Her main research interests are subscription pay TV and online video (SVoD). Jun Wen provides analysis of the key developments in the media landscape in Asia Pacific through extensive research and consultancy work as well as published commentaries and reports.
She joined Omdia (formerly IHS Markit) in 2014. Prior to this role, she was involved in mobile content and services research, covering over-the-top messaging and communications apps and ways in which mobile content providers can best monetize mobile media. Jun Wen holds a master’s degree in applied statistics and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Malaya.
