Ericsson recently confirmed the shutdown of its global edge computing network, Edge Gravity, after two years of activity. The company formed partnerships with more than 100 service providers such as Limelight, Telefonica, Vodafone, Telstra, China Unicom and others during Edge Gravity’s network development. Ericsson’s vision to build a worldwide edge network for content and application providers through partnerships with telcos, CDNs and data centre infrastructure vendors was ultimately derailed by a lack of traction.
