For 2020, the growth rate of global machinery production and industrial automation equipment (IAE) have been revised to -14.6% and -10.1% respectively. While IAE forecasts remained consistent with Q2, a marginal improvement was seen in machinery production. Omdia still believes that spending on new machinery and plant expansion will be kept to a minimum as there are still too many variables at play. The impact of COVID-19 has meant that manufacturers need to re-imagine traditional production processes to incorporate social distancing, apply protective measures, and introduce new equipment.
