Corning has developed a patterned glass diffuser (PGD) for Mini LED backlights. Patterning is widely adopted for optical films in backlights to diffuse light. Because glass is good for heat resistance, a PGD can be placed very close to hot LED chips, maintaining both the flatness and thinness of a backlight, which is useful in reducing optical distance.
