To achieve cloud-based operations for operators’ 5G strategy, investment in software-defined networking (SDN) and NFV is needed. The market for global NFV software and services is projected to hit $45.5bn in 2025.
Omdia's NFV tracker represents the sum total of multiple regional and software product forecasts. Starting from an estimated $26.7bn in 2020, the market for global NFV software and services is projected to hit $45.5bn in 2025.
Half-year forecast data update. Provides in-depth coverage of the global uCPE hardware market. Forecast drivers include SD-WAN adoption & CSP edge computing strategies. This update considers the effect of global supply chain disruption.
Among respondents (n=65), 92% have deployed or plan to deploy NFV soon. Operators are integrating NFV (and other carrier network software) to no longer “compete” with hyperscalers but instead partner with them to deliver new services in 5G.
Operators are currently deploying and commercializing 5G SA networks according to the principles of service-based architecture. Yet SBA is not fixed and continues to evolve as 5G networks, and their standards and supplier landscapes mature.
The carrier SDN segment went mainstream in 2019 and reached $10.3 billion in 2020. Omdia projects this market will grow to approximately $27.2 billion by the end of 2025.
