Ronan de Renesse

Research VP, Telecoms

Ronan leads Omdia's telecoms research team, including the establishment and execution of research strategy. He has been analyzing the TMT industry for more than 20 years, covering a wide range of domains in telecoms, media, and devices.  

Ronan owns and oversees the creation of high-quality syndicated deliverables and the execution of successful consulting engagements, establishing sector research strategy and superior market positioning while managing and developing a large and diverse global team. Ronan's research team covers multiple domains in the telecoms ecosystem. These include telecoms industry strategy and regulation; global and regional markets; network technology from components to fixed and mobile access; and consumer, enterprise, and wholesale services. Prior to joining Informa (now Omdia), formerly Ovum, in 2014, he was a principal analyst at Analysys Mason and IHS Screen Digest. Ronan is prized as a global technology commentator and often discusses a range of issues with Bloomberg, CNBC, Sky, and BBC. Ronan holds a PhD in telecommunications from King's College London.

William Thompson-Hare

Research Director

William Thompson-Hare is the Research Director for Telecoms Data Strategy at Omdia. He is responsible for leading and managing Omdia’s World Information Series (WIS) product family (including WCIS and WBIS) and driving the creation of unique market data for the telecom industry.

William has more than 17 years of experience in the telecom sector, advising operators, NRAs, and professional services firms worldwide. He joined Omdia in 2020 and became the practice leader for European Service Provider Markets. William led a team of analysts covering fixed and mobile market developments in the European telecom industry across more than 50 countries. His specializations include market modeling and data analysis, market forecasting, 5G, and broadband market dynamics. William holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.

Ari Lopes

Practice Leader

Ari Lopes manages the Service Provider Markets Americas team, which covers the telecom markets in the Americas region, including North America, Central America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. His research focuses on telecom operator strategies for 5G, fixed broadband—especially fiber broadband—enterprise telecoms, and IoT. Ari also analyzes developments in the Latin American telecom market, particularly Brazil.

Before joining the company in 2012, Ari worked as a senior financial analyst for Google, a pricing manager for Oi (formerly Brasil Telecom), and a pricing analyst for Vivo. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and a Master of Science in communications management from the University of Strathclyde.

Thecla Mbongue

Research Manager

Thecla analyzes telecom, media, and technology trends as part of the Middle East and Africa team. She researches regional operator strategies, network deployments, and regulatory development. Specific areas of her research include broadband technology deployments (4G, 5G, FTTx), smartphones, OTT, and mobile financial services. 

Thecla joined Omdia in 2003 as a telecom researcher and has over 20 years’ experience in the industry. She is a regular speaker and chair at industry conferences and comments on industry developments for regional and international media. Previously, Thecla worked for global telecom carrier Vectone in London.  

Ramona Zhao

Research Manager, Asia Pac Markets

Ramona is the Research Manager for APAC service provider markets and leads research analysis on the Asian service provider market. She covers a wide range of topics including service provider strategies, digital activities, business plans, and innovation services. Ramona's specialties include strategy planning and market dynamics.

Prior to joining Informa (now Omdia), formerly Ovum, in 2018, Ramona worked in China Mobile Research Institute’s strategy research division and was responsible for research projects that covered a wide range of topics, including 4G, video, and operators' digital transformations. She provided strategic insights for China Mobile Research Institute's business planning and development. Ramona also worked as a consultant at Detecon, providing management consulting services for China’s operators.
