Summary

On March 14, 2024, thousands gathered for the Oracle Cloudworld Tour London at the ExCeL event center for this year’s insight into everything that Oracle offers through its cloud services. As always, it was most interesting to reflect on the pace of development and change from the previous year’s event, underlining just how dynamic the sector is, with three key themes apparent across the range of keynotes and presentations.

Progressive transformation and the rise of platform as a service

The first theme was the continuation of a trend Omdia has been seeing: the increasing merger of the technology and banking/finance sectors into a single entity. The Oracle case is a key example, as Doug Kehring, its Vice Executive President of Corporate Operations, said in the keynote address: “Oracle used to be a product company, but it is now a service company.” Its primary purpose is to provide access to tech stacks as a service for participants in a range of industries, removing the need for companies to build their own tech.
