From April 15 to 18, 2024, Omdia attended Data Center World 2024 in Washington, DC. The event focused on AI’s proliferation in the data center and how its immense energy requirements can be met sustainably. In this piece, Omdia reviews the key points from the event.

Generative AI will see the lion’s share of growth as investment increases

The Omdia Analyst Summit occurred on the first day. This event primarily focused on Generative AI (GenAI) and its explosive growth. Currently estimated at $12bn in 2024, projections forecast a massive increase to over $60bn by 2028, representing more than a fivefold expansion. This rapid growth significantly outpaces the predictive AI market, which has existed for much longer with applications like Google Search’s predictive text and computer vision implemented by companies like Tesla. While still sizable at $75bn in 2024, the predictive AI market is projected to reach $125bn in 2028, which is still a large increase but smaller in comparison.
