CSPs rely on global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) to provide the synchronization requirements for their 5G Standalone (SA) networks. GNSS signals are nonetheless relatively easy to jam. Consequently, CSPs are considering alternate solutions to using GNSS at the cell sites, such as network-based synchronization. This report considers CSPs’ requirements for 5G synchronization, the complexities in delivering a networked-based synchronization, and a look at the regulatory environment and vendor landscape.
