Omdia view

The global video surveillance equipment market reached $25.9bn, edging up 0.9% year-on-year (YoY), according to Omdia’s 2025 Video Surveillance & Analytics Report. Growth varied across regions: markets outside China expanded a healthy 7.5%, reaching $16.8bn, supported by investment in infrastructure and modernization, while the Chinese market experienced its third consecutive year of contraction by 9.6%.

Divergent market performance

Growth outside China accelerated to 7.5% in 2024, up from 6.1% in 2023, driven by higher public spending on infrastructure and safety projects, alongside strong business investment in digitization and modernization under favorable policy environments.

By contrast, the Chinese market remains below its 2021 peak of approximately $13bn, reflecting ongoing adjustments in the real estate sector, restricted public sector spending, and diminished business confidence. Technological transformation

The report highlights several significant technological shifts reshaping the industry:

  • The generative AI (GenAI) revolution: 2025 marks the emergence of AI-based solutions capable of interpreting video content through natural language prompts, transforming how security professionals interact with systems.
  • Software takes center stage: The market narrative is shifting, with software and services now outpacing camera hardware in both growth and value. Video surveillance as a service (VSaaS) is forecast to grow at a 25.3% CAGR from 2024 to 2029.
  • The convergence of AI-powered IoT (AIoT) and operational technology (OT): The integration of AIoT with OT is turning traditional systems into intelligent monitoring platforms, transforming passive observation into proactive insight through the integration of various IoT sensors beyond cameras.

Market outlook

Omdia forecasts the global video surveillance market to grow at a 7.5% CAGR between 2024 and 2029, reaching $37.1bn by 2029. Growth outside of China is projected at a stronger 9.4% CAGR during this period, underpinned by:

  • Increased public spending on infrastructure and safety
  • Business investment in facility digitization and modernization
  • A continued shift toward higher-tier products in developed regions

At the same time, growing protectionism and elevated trade barriers are expected to influence market development. Policy changes, such as reciprocal tariffs in the US, India’s new cybersecurity standards for CCTV products, and evolving procurement practices in Western markets, are expediting supply chain diversification and reconfiguration.
