SUSE was the first company to offer an enterprise-grade Linux operating system, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), 33 years ago. At the time, CEO Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen stated that he believed in the strategic opportunity of being a private company. At its annual customer event, SUSECON 2025, the new SUSE emerged demonstrating that Leeuwen was correct – being private enabled SUSE to take a longer-term view of how the company should be reshaped.
