U.S.-Canada border blockades worsened existing production slowdowns caused by continued volatility in the supply chain due to the lack of semiconductors, plus shortages of other parts and materials. The flow of parts to assembly plants is improving, but the lowering of first-quarter expectations, and the reasons behind it, show North American automakers have a long way to go before they have the capability to build at full plant capacity.
