Although Japan will remain a major global market, and No. 3 in vehicle production, India is poised to permanently overtake it as the No. 1 market in the Asia-Pacific (excluding China) region by 2026. Along with other countries, such as South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, India also will help solidify the region as a production base for long-term growth – though headwinds such as weaker global markets and competition from China in building for export markets will present significant challenges.
