Missing from the past two years due to the dearth of inventory caused by the supply-chain disruptions that hit manufacturers in early 2021 was the historically tried and true end-of-year holiday surge. With initial modeling not showing an improvement in sales in December from November, sharply rising inventory could put some spark back into the holidays if automakers bite and boost spiffs enough by the end of the month.
