UK households using professional home security monitoring surge 31% in 2025

LONDON, December 10, 2025: The number of UK households adopting professional home security monitoring services is on track to finish 2025 with 31% year-over-year growth, reaching 542,600 households, up from 413,900 in 2024. According to Omdia’s Smart Home Services Forecast 2025–2030, this surge reflects a significant market shift as consumers increasingly embrace smart technologies to safeguard their homes and digital lives.

Which smart home services do you currently use and pay a monthly subscription fee for

Omdia’s 2025 Digital Consumer Insights survey, which polled over 1,000 UK respondents, identifies three key areas of growth driven by growing awareness of both physical and cyber threats:

• Smart camera video storage leads adoption

Video recording and storage subscriptions for smart cameras are currently the most established smart home security service, with 21% of respondents already paying for these solutions. These self-monitoring services enable homeowners to monitor their properties in real time and store footage securely in the cloud. A further 29% of non-subscribers expressed interest in adopting these services, indicating a strong pipeline for future growth.

Professional home security monitoring continues to expand

Concerns about burglary and personal safety remain top of mind for consumers, driving investment in 24/7 professional monitoring. The survey reveals that 21% of UK households already subscribe to professional monitoring services, while 28% of respondents are considering adoption. This expanding customer base underscores the perceived value of always-on protection and rapid incident response.

Cybersecurity becomes essential for connected IoT devices

With the rapid proliferation of IoT devices, ranging from smart locks to voice assistants, cybersecurity has emerged as a critical component of home protection. Currently, 20% of respondents invest in solutions that protect all connected devices in the home, while a further 32% are interested in doing so. As more everyday devices become connected, the risk of cyberattacks grows, making digital protection an essential part of modern home security strategies.

Despite these encouraging trends, nearly half of respondents remain uninterested in paid security services, underlining the need for greater consumer education and value-driven offerings. To succeed in this space, service providers must focus on delivering convenient, affordable, and integrated solutions that combine physical and digital security under one cohesive umbrella.

“The necessary convergence of smart home technology and cybersecurity is redefining what home protection means,” said Mariana Zamoszczyk, Principal Analyst at Omdia. “Consumers are looking for robust, unified solutions to secure both their homes and their personal data.”

As the UK home security market evolves, the integration of smart technologies and cybersecurity services will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of home protection. With growing consumer interest and adoption, the industry is positioned for significant expansion in the years ahead.

The 2025 Digital Consumer Insights study offers a comprehensive view of consumer attitudes toward smart home services, subscription models, and security priorities. It serves as a benchmark for industry stakeholders aiming to capitalize on emerging trends in home automation and digital safety.
