As Oppo joins the foldable smartphone market, Joy Guo, Principal Research Analyst, in Omdia’s China Display & Smartphone practice takes a closer look at its latest foldable models.

In December 2022, Oppo launched two foldable smartphones—the Find N2 (Find N’s successor) and the Find N2 Flip. The Find N2 is priced at ¥7,999 (around $1,143), 3.9% higher than the Find N, which was priced at ¥7,699 a year ago when it was first launched. (We are unable to determine the Find N’s price in dollars as the dollar has risen by over 10% against the yuan since then.) The Find N2 Flip is priced at ¥5,999 (around $857).

The Find N2’s main display has kept the same parameters—including size and resolution—as the Find N, apart from adopting COE technology to reduce display power consumption and improve OLED material combination. COE is a flexible AMOLED module technology that uses a color filter to replace the circular polarizer, helping to reduce power consumption. Samsung Display supplied the main displays for the Find N and Find N2.

2. The Find N2’s sub display has considerably changed when compared to the Find N. Table 1 shows the Find N2’s and Find N’s main display parameters. BOE supplied the sub display for the Find N, while for the Find N2, Samsung Display had quoted an attractive price package for the main and sub displays, winning the bid to supply the total solution.

The Find N2 Flip is Oppo’s first clamshell foldable smartphone. While it is named after the Find N2, by no means is it a second-generation product.

3. Table 2 shows the Find N2 Flip’s main parameters for its main and sub displays. Samsung Display supplied the main display, and BOE supplied the sub display. BOE is developing a main display with COE technology for the Find N3 Flip.
