DC Ethernet switch quarterly revenue hits a new high

Highlights of the quarter:

  • The DC Ethernet switch market recorded revenue growth of 11% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and 23% year-on-year (YoY) in 2Q23.
  • Quarterly port shipments reached over 26 million, up 7% QoQ and 28% YoY. The first half of 2022 had a lot of supply-chain-related issues, and the silicon shortage was severe in 2Q22, affecting switch shipments.
  • Switch vendors, especially OEMs, experienced a boost due to the fulfillment of numerous backorders. Due to component shortages from the previous year, Ethernet switches faced extended lead times, leading to a buildup of orders from enterprise customers.
  • With demand driven by 100GE and above port speeds, 400GE quarterly port shipments surpassed 2.6 million.
  • 100GE and above port speeds contributed over 67% of the revenue and over 53% of the port shipments.
  • 800GE shipments have started, and Omdia expects volume to pick up in 3Q and 4Q as hyperscale cloud service providers upgrade their spine, super-spine, and DCI networks.
