The OPPO Find X8 series, the company’s flagship smartphone model, was launched globally November 21 in Indonesia, having been announced in China October 24. Find X8 and Find X8 Pro will be available in markets in Asia & Oceania, Europe, and Latin America. This is the latest generation after the OPPO Find X7 series to go to the international market.
The OPPO Find X8 series hardware specifications have several upgrades from the previous generation:
- The standard model has a 6.59” flat display, and the Pro model has a 6.78” flexible AMOLED panel. Both have a peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits for a better display in bright light. Find X8 displays use an ultranarrow bezel of only 1.45mm, 0.39mm narrower than the 1.95mm design on the OPPO Find X7. To achieve this design, OPPO has built a panel module production fab for a total investment of CNY100 million, the only fully self-built production line in the China smartphone industry.
- OPPO has adopted a new periscope camera. The size of the lens module has been greatly reduced, which enabled the camera deco to become much thinner.
- OPPO Find X8 series smartphones use batteries made of silicon-carbon anode materials, which enable greater energy density in a smaller size. This technology is used primarily on foldable smartphones where weight is an important consideration. The OPPO Find X8 weighs only 193g, making for easier handling.
The OPPO Find X8 is also shipped with the latest operating system, ColorOS 15. With the inclusion of Google Gemini 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Flash across language, assistance, and search, the user experience of AI has been greatly enhanced. By the end of this year, OPPO expects to provide generative AI functions to more than 50 million users worldwide. Through research and ecological cooperation on AI, OPPO has a clearer AI strategic direction.
OPPO continues to delve into overseas markets, especially in Asia & Oceania, because of the huge potential growth there thanks to the sustained demographic dividend and economic growth. According to Omdia data, OPPO is the leader in shipments in southeast markets with 5.1 million units in 3Q24. It is doing well in the Indonesia market, its first international one. OPPO has a different strategy from other major smartphone vendors: it attaches more importance to the middle high-end segment, while its competitors are more focused on lower-price segments. That’s why OPPO chose Indonesia to launch the Find X8 series. The foldable smartphone OPPO Find N3 and Find N3 Flip are already available in this market.
OPPO is focused on localization. It has built a smartphone factory in Indonesia with a maximum capacity of almost 2 million per month and more than 1,000 employees in the country. All the smartphones sold in Indonesia are produced there. The Indonesian factory is OPPO’s second-largest overseas manufacturing center. OPPO currently has eight manufacturing centers, in China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan. With more localized production, the company can be more responsive to changes in market demand, has stronger market expansion advantages, and can better manage supply chain risk. Besides the South-Eastern Asia market, OPPO also has high growth in Latin America, where it is opening up more markets such as Brazil and Argentina.
