AI Market Maturity

By any stretch of the imagination, it is still early days for artificial intelligence (AI). That said, pioneering AI solutions providers and end-user companies have moved from proofs-of-concept to live deployments of AI solutions over the past few years. This Omdia survey examines the maturation of the market, with views of the AI structure and strategies of end-user and vendor companies. The survey results suggest companies that have been AI pioneers fit the classic profile of early adopters. They are willing to risk money, time, and resources with the hope that potential returns will give them competitive advantages over companies that wait for a more developed market. While some industry sectors have more mature AI ecosystems than others, in a broad sense, the AI ecosystem reflects a market that is still in the early stages. This Omdia survey provides the results of an online survey of 365 enterprises. The survey was sent to contact databases from Omdia, AI Summit, and AI Business. Surveyed companies across different vertical industries ranged in size from small startups with less than 100 employees to global companies with 10,000+ employees. Respondents were categorized as companies that were end users of AI solutions and capabilities and vendors that market AI solutions and capabilities. The survey treated the location of the respondent as the source country. Respondents had a broad range of job functions and titles, and the companies were using or exploring AI capabilities/services.

Artificial Intelligence Software Market Forecasts

The artificial intelligence (AI) software market has experienced tremendous growth over the past several years. Many enterprises have discovered that AI software can help cut costs and generate new revenue streams. Yet, AI software remains a relatively small portion of overall software sales, with varying acceptance across industries. The AI software market has entered a new phase in which AI is a requirement for most enterprises to compete on a global level. Significant opportunity lies ahead for AI software market penetration despite short-term economic and market turbulence from the COVID-19 pandemic. AI software employs several different technologies that give computers human-like abilities of perception, reasoning, planning, and decision-making. Most AI systems today are machine and deep learning (ML and DL) systems; other technologies include natural language processing (NLP), computer vision (CV), machine reasoning (MR), and strong AI. Omdia has built a taxonomy of 340 AI use cases across 23 industries that captures the software opportunity related to AI. A new breakout aggregates the 340 use cases to 14 horizontal markets. Under the moderate impact scenario, global AI software revenue is expected to grow at a 34.9% CAGR to reach nearly $100bn in 2025. This Omdia report provides a quantitative assessment of the market opportunity for AI software. To assess the COVID-19 impact, Omdia outlines four forecast scenarios through 2025. The study includes market sizing, segmentation, and forecasts for 340 AI use cases, including more than 200 unique use cases. Global market forecasts, segmented by scenario, use case, industry, technology, geography, horizontal market, and meta category, extend through 2025.

Computer Vision Technologies and Markets

Computer vision (CV) has become commercialized in the past few years and is being deployed in a wide range of applications. The proofs-of-concepts that started a few years ago are now going into production. They are creating a new set of problems that are providing opportunities for yet another group of startups. The rapid growth of technology, accurate results, falling price of hardware, and ease of connectivity are some of the factors enabling the rapid global adoption of CV. Omdia considers CV to be a horizontal market, as the applications are spread across many different use cases. This report focuses on 69 use cases in 25 industries that are tracked by Omdia. CV has enabled many capabilities in products that were part of science fiction until recently. The global CV market has gained significant momentum in the past few years and does not show any sign of slowing down. As of 2020, the market has started figuring out how to use CV technology for commercial benefit. Global CV market revenue is expected to grow across many use cases in different industries, increasing from $2.9bn in 2018 to $33.5bn by 2025. This Omdia report analyzes the market trends and technology issues surrounding CV. The study examines the industries and use cases and provides profiles of key industry players. Global market forecasts, segmented by region, industry, and use case, extend through 2025. The report also provides a description of various technical hurdles and the different business models used within the CV industry.
